1 - Reflection on Previous I Search Experiences - Mon. April 7
1. What are some of the previous research projects you have done?
I have done a bio board, a board game project with Mrs. Brewer, and the festival project.

2. Based on these projects, what does research mean to you?
Research means searching the internet and books to find reliable information to answer my question.

3. Describe one of your research successes or failures. Why was the experience positive or negative?
The festival project could be considered a success because I researched a festival I had attended. I received lots of good information from the organizer of the festival.

2 - Reflection on Webbing Process (due Tuesday, April 8)
1. I think the webbing process helped/did not help me find a topic because:
The databases wouldn't have a list of everything we learned this year, and couldn't remember any topics that I really enjoyed learning about. I thought about doing Greek mythology, but it is such a broad topic to me that the databases would give me too many choices. I think using textbooks, friends and old notes to recall things we learned about would have been more helpful to me for this project.

3 - Why I Chose This Topic and What I Know About My Topic (due Tuesday, April 8)
1. Topic:
Rosetta Stone

2. Why you chose it:
I didn't think anything else was very interesting, and Greek mythology seemed too broad to use as a topic.

3. What you already know about your topic:
The Rosetta Stone has helped our society learn languages that we probably wouldn't be able to translate.

4 - Pre-Notetaking Activity - in class (due Wednesday, April 9)
1. Brainstorm a list of questions related to your topic.
  • How many different languages are on the Rosetta Stone? What are some languages it has helped us decipher?
  • Who discovered the Rosetta Stone?
  • Where and when was it found?
  • Who created it, and what was his/her reason?
  • What might the world be like if we hadn't found the stone?
  • Was there anything else besides translations of languages engraved in the stone? If so, what?
  • Were there any missing fragments of the stone?
  • Are people today still translating parts of the Rosetta Stone?
  • Have any dead languages been revived because of the stone?

5 - Reflections on Pre-Notetaking - for homework (due Wednesday, April 9)
1. Describe how the pre-notetaking sheet helped you find both focus for your topic and research questions to investigate. Did you find it easy or difficult to create a fat question from your ideas?
After I thought for a little while, I was able to come up with a lot of questions.

6 - Search Log (due Thursday, April 10)
1. What have I learned today?
I changed my topic to something that I would know more about and would have more fun researching, so I didn't find too much information that I didn't know.

2. What problems have I had?
I changed my topic to use of horses in ancient Greece, so at first I had trouble coming up with skinny questions.

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I will think more about my topic to create more questions.

4. What will I do next?
I will think of more skinny questions so I will be able to have a bunch of notecards so that I will have a lot to choose from if we do a report, speech, etc.

7 - Search Log (due Friday, April 11)
1. What have I learned today?
I learned that the Greek greatly valued horses and often used statues of horses as offerings to the gods.

2. What problems have I had?
I had trouble finding a book that had a lot of information about horses in ancient Greece.

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I will go back and look through some more books to find some information.

4. What will I do next?
I will hopefully find a book with lots of information that I need, then I will look at the databases.

8 - Search Log (due Monday, April 14)
1. What have I learned today?
I found a book with the information that I needed, and as I was flipping to the page I wanted, I learned that horses have a fifth gait, called the pace.

2. What problems have I had?
I need to find more sources of information that I can use to make more notecards and I need to try harder to stay on track.

3. How will I overcome the problem(s)?
I will focus on what I need to get accomplished and tell myself not to get distracted.

4. What will I do next?
I will continue making notecards and complete the graphic organizer.
